Fame comes at a price. Parov Stelar, a pioneer of electro-swing blessed with awards and numerous gold and platinum hits, ranks among the most internationally successful electronic musicians, with 500 million YouTube views and three million monthly listeners on Spotify. With over 1,000 live performances under his belt, he’s right at home at the world’s biggest festivals. And his shows always turn into full-blown dance parties. But because dance events are taxed at a higher rate than concerts in Austria, Parov Stelar once had to pay about 10,000 euros in back taxes after a performance in Vienna. The Austrian artist’s fans can’t be bothered with such bureaucratic quibbles. They party like there’s no tomorrow – and have done so four times already at the Jazz Open. The atmosphere is fantastic, and the euphoric affection is mutual. “If Stuttgart were a woman, I’d marry her,” says Parov Stelar.
