The Hamburg-based techno marching band MEUTE, which has been heating up the atmosphere at the world’s biggest festivals for over ten years now, has its very own definition of what these wild guys are actually up to on stage. “Eleven drummers and horn players do the job of a DJ,” they say. The idea of bringing electronic music to the masses in a completely analog way – with drums and trumpets – was born in St. Pauli. Add to that the marching band uniforms they once bought secondhand online – and the cult following was unstoppable. The red jackets have become just as much a trademark as their walks through the crowd. The fans are constantly on the move. The motto: drums, frenzy, commotion. The Jazz Open and MEUTE are a well-oiled team. This summer marks the fourth time they’ll celebrate their collaboration.
