WILLOW

FOLLOWING THE THREAD

She was nine when Whip My Hair went around the world in 2010. Since then, WILLOW has reinvented herself with almost every album: neo-soul on her debut Ardipithecus (2015), whose song Wait a Minute! has passed a billion streams, psychedelic folk on WILLOW, pop-punk on lately I feel EVERYTHING, hard rock on <COPINGMECHANISM>. With empathogen she turned to jazz in 2024: the album reached No. 1 on Billboard's Contemporary Jazz Albums chart and earned her two Grammy nominations. In 2026 she followed up twice. On petal rock black she wrote, produced and played almost everything herself, with George Clinton, Kamasi Washington and Tune-Yards as guests. July brought The Thread, a devotional album between pop, soul and jazz, carried by syncopated rhythms. At the Jazz Open, WILLOW performs at the Altes Schloss.

FROM THE CLASSROOM TO THE MIC

Brother Wallace was eleven when he first sat down at a church piano in West Point, Georgia. Since then he has shared a stage with gospel legend Kirk Franklin, played Madison Square Garden as a backing vocalist for The Heavy and spent many years teaching music in schools. With The Heavy's guitarist Dan Taylor he made his debut album Electric Love, released on ATO Records in May 2026: soul with gospel roots and plenty of joy. At the Jazz Open, Brother Wallace performs at the Altes Schloss as support for Willow.

Altes Schloss

The magic

The Counts and Dukes of Württemberg once set the tone here. Today, the Jazz Open do the same every July. South German Renaissance and contemporary music merge into a highly emotional experience. Colours have never seemed so intoxicating as when the magnificent arcaded courtyard glows in the dark to the music.
