PABLO HELD TRIO
ONE TRIO, TWENTY YEARS
In 2006 Pablo Held formed his trio with bassist Robert Landfermann and drummer Jonas Burgwinkel, and the three have played together in the same line-up ever since. That constancy has produced one of Europe’s defining piano trios, known for daring interplay between composition and improvisation. Born in Hagen in 1986, Held studied in Cologne with John Taylor. He has won the WDR Jazz Prize and the German Jazz Prize, the trio the SWR Jazz Prize. He has played with John Scofield, Chris Potter and Norma Winstone, and the trio recorded The Trio Meets John Scofield with Scofield. In his podcast Pablo Held Investigates he talks to greats such as Wayne Shorter, Bill Frisell and Maria Schneider about the creative process. Now he receives the Wolfgang Dauner Award, presented by the Jazz Open for the third time in memory of Stuttgart’s great pianist. At the Jazz Open, Pablo Held performs with his trio at the Fruchtkasten.
BIX Jazzclub
The heart
Bathed in dim light, the small club stage encourages artists to give great concerts. Thanks to first-class technology, the best sound is guaranteed, as is a great atmosphere. The BIX, named one of the world's 50 best jazz clubs by Down-Beat magazine in 2012, is the heart of the festival - and the meeting place for experts, night owls and festival guests who can't get enough.
